  • BROKE - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought in Dec 01 with 73K. Limited all bells and whistles. Car looks great as if rolled off dealership, cause very well taken cared off. Fun to drive and go for a ride, however the maintenance cost will also take u for a ride. I now have 117K and get nervous, cause I have already experienced some of the problems other users have posted. I had to rebuilt transmission, broken motor mounts, and now a cracked exhaust manifold. Spent over $3000!!! on this car, like throwing money in to a black hole. If you have money to burn, buy this car for fun. Definitely not a reliable car. Get a Toyota.

I bought my Jeep Grand Cherokee about a year and a half ago and it has been nothing but problems. About every two to three months, something will go wrong with it. (Something different every time.) I almost have a new car by now.

I had the Jeep inspected by a dealer before buying. They said it was the cleanist 95 they have seen in a long time and it would be a good buy. Sence then I have been avg $2000 a year in repairs (a/c, water pump, motor mounts, rear wiper motor, av boots, antenna moter, idol speed ?, radiator, unknown cluck periodicly from under right side of hood, I had 3 leaks start at the same time over night, ect.)

Best vehicle purchase I made 12 years ago since upgrading from a 1985 Olds Cutlass Supreme. The grand Cherokee Laredo gave me everything I can could possibly want in a vehicle and its still going strong. Glad I purchased this vehicle!

  • Love this Jeep - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought this Jeep from my husbands employer after he had driven it for about 6 years. He loved it and only missed 1 day of work in all those years (because of ice) because of the weather and we live 45 minutes away. Ive been driving it ever since and I love it. Its so fun. The paint looks like new still (when its clean--we live on a gravel road). I know its going to go on the snow, and stop too. It has 283000 miles on it and did have the transmission rebuilt at 225000. I like the computer. A drunk driver hit it yesterday so Im not sure whether well fix it back up--its not worth too much to anyone else at this point, especially the insurance company.

  • Dont believe everything you read! - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought this truck a couple weeks ago. Color is Driftwood/Pearl. 5.2 v8. Automatic O/D Quadra Trac, Up Country Suspension Group, Infinity Gold Sound, All the bells and whistles etc... Very powerful low end torque, Quick! Smokes all other MPVs they cant keep up. Went to the rock quarry where I work and climbed our bulldozer trail with it! As good as my 72 Scout 2 on the climb with all the gadgets! Kids love it, Girlfriend loves it! 18 mpg city/ 24 hwy! 91000 miles, clean. One thing though is that other "SUV" (i hate that term) drivers seem jealous and tend to try and push a guy around! Go figure! Not my fault they have an Explorer or what not!

  • Bulletproof I6 - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This vehicle was given to me with 280k miles on the odometer. Even now, it is unstoppable. With only two wheel drive Ive never gotten stuck, despite my best efforts. My Jeep has seen a lot of trails--and a lot of things that are not quite trails--and has pushed through all of them like a champ. The straight 6 gives not only impressive torque for a 4 liter, but an incredibly smooth drive, and has yet to fail to get me over any mound of dirt and rock Ive thrown at it. Ive owned it for six months and have had to replace both idler pulleys. When the second idler pulley quit, it chewed up the mounting bracket pretty good. Picked up a replacement bracket for ten bucks at a scrap yard, spent thirteen on a pulley at AutoZone, and did the repairs myself. Most expensive maintenance to date. Theres a problem with the clutch (automatic), but manually starting in first circumvents such transmission problems. To hear it told, I wouldnt bother rebuilding the transmission- If it quits, you replace it. Ill happily drop the $1500 when that happens. When I fold down rear seats (quickly and easily), I can lay down and stretch out completely in the back. I never imagined I would be an SUV owner, but I _love_ this Jeep. For a point of reference, my dream car is a Chevy Spark. In that vein, gas mileage leaves a lot to be desired. Even still, I wouldnt trade it for a Prius (my BIG dream car). Okay, Id trade it for a new-ish Prius C. Any takers?

  • They were made to be run into the ground - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my Jeep two years ago with 174k miles on it (yep, you read that right). In those two years, ive done routine maintance, and replaced the driver side wheel bearings (about a grand at a Jeep delear). NOTHING else ever went wrong with it, but i suspect the other owners might have repaired the brunt of it. Im just now starting to have issues- but the Jeep is about to hit 200K! Beware, they were made to last, and made to be run into the ground, but when they get old - their repairs are NOT cheap! My problem is viscous coupler - OUCH - and sway bars. Will be sad to see her go, but cant sink money into her.

  • A very reliable Jeep! - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

We bought our Jeep Grand Cherokee, V6 2WD, when it had 70K miles and drove it to 205000 miles! We barely gave it regular maintenance and the only things we replaced were the AC blower(about $900) and part of the exhaust ($500). Overall very suburb reliability! We even got about 25mpg on the highway on road trips at about 75-80mph. Would definitely buy one again if I knew gas prices would not go back up!

  • Great vehicle! - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had this vehicle for around a year now, it has 240k with nothing rebuilt. It has the 5.2l V8. (not sure why its not listed in here) Very fun vehicle and I love opening it up and listening to the engine (got a glasspack on it so its a little louder). Good for offroad although it could use a locker in the rear.
